Director of Development and Community Engagement
TODD ESPELAND is the Director of Development and Community Engagement for Clear Space Theatre Company. Prior to joining the staff at Clear Space he was the Artistic Director of Commedia Zuppa, Artistic Director of the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre, and, most recently, the Executive/Artistic Director of the Fort Wayne Youtheatre. As the artistic Director of Commedia Zuppa he has served as a mask and movement specialist and artist in residence Off-Broadway for the Rosebud Theatre Company, and at many regional theatres, and universities. As the Artistic Director of the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre he oversaw the artistic and administrative realization of a 15 show season and worked with over 1100 community volunteers each year. At the Fort Wayne Youtheatre he served as the organization’s chief development officer. During his time there he helped lead the organization to a full financial recovery post-pandemic, and raised over $900k for all its programs including The Neurodiversity Project, and Stories from the Stacks Theatre for Young Readers. Todd’s theatrical work specializes in Mask, Clown, Circus Techniques, Commedia Dell’ Arte and Physical Theatre. He is a graduate of the world renowned Dell’ Arte International and holds an MFA in Directing from the University of Nevada Las Vegas.
