Bob and Millie and Norma and Jim are two ideal couples in Washington DC in 1950. Or, perhaps the ideal couples are actually Bob and Jim and Millie and Norma...? With adjoining condos that connect through their hall closet, their marriages are an elaborate and delightful ruse. Not even Bob and Norma's colleagues at the State Department know. But when Bob is asked to become the man in charge of J Edgar Hoover's new plan to eliminate certain types of "security risks" from government, their arrangement risks careening from perfect comedy to perfectly tragic. What starts as a hilarious send-up of the picture-perfect 1950s sitcom evolves into a moving, provocative, and wildly entertaining story about love, identity, complicity, and finding the courage to stop playing along.
