Education | Acting Classes

Study acting, voice, & more—in classes that work with your busy schedule!

    Mondays (5 - 7 pm) February 3rd – April 7th
    Christa Pardocchi, Instructor
    Tuition - $200

    Designed for adults who wish to expand their education in musical theatre dance, whether for personal craft or just for fun.  Students will be guided through jazz and tap styles focusing on proper alignment, flexibility, muscle control and correct execution of technique.

    Wednesdays  (10 am - 12:30 pm) January 22nd - April 9th

    Tuition - $250

    For students 50 and older, we offer the joy of performing without the added pressure of memorization or complex staging.  Learn the score to this popular musical, including “Anything You Can Do (I Can Do Better)", "Lost In His Arms", "There's No Business Like Show Business",  and more! The semester concludes in a final public performance on April 9th.

    Sundays (6:30 - 8 pm.)  February 9th - April 13th

    Join other experienced actors for one-hour sessions to improve existing skills through exercises led by Acting Company members and other professionals including technique, Shakespearean interpretation, monologue/scenes, improvisation principles and more!  Drop-in fee of $5 per session. Call for specific schedule. Please note: Previous acting training and experience recommended.

    Learn how to select music and to prepare yourself for an audition. Session includes:
    Picking a16-bar music selection, how to present yourself and your music, acting
    a song, how to speak with a musical director in an audition situation, and vocal/coaching choices. Actors may bring songs or music will be provided.

    A continuation of how to prepare yourself and your music for an audition.
    Session includes: Presenting a 16-bar music selection to a director and your
    peers with feedback. Actors provide their song based on what they learned from the
    previous musical theatre workshop. 
  • March 9
    Part 2, March 9
    Presented by Dot Neumann
    Bring your monologue to life! Dot will work with actors to clarify character, objective, and action choices using technique exercises and
    individual feedback. Please bring a monologue.  You may join this
    workshop even if you did not attend Part 1.
  • March 16
    Presented by Cassandra Pressimone
    Read a new play by an up and coming new playwright, Cassandra Pressimone.
    The session will include the reading of her piece with talkback about thoughts and
    observations to follow.  Tell the new playwright what you
    think the strengths of the work are and what could be improved from
    an actor's perspective.
  • March 23

    Clear Space Executive Director and
    David Button, Company Manager
    Avenue Q, The Lion King, War Horse-with so many shows using puppetry, we pulled
    a few strings and borrowed puppets from the Millian Methodist in Rockville, Maryland for this workshop. Learn puppetry techniques to bring that "piece of cloth and foam" to life and learn how those techniques help actors bring themselves to life as well! Learn how to work different types of puppets from Human Puppets to Monsters  to Animals - creating movement and a voice for each!
  • March 30
    Presented by David Button, Director and
    Clear Space Company Manager
    David will lead actors  through scenes that have multiple interpretations. He will direct actors in these scenes utilizing different approaches, exploring genre, objective, physicality, relationship, and analysis. What is a character''s true motivation - to kill you or to seduce you?  Why are you being questioned
     - because you committed a crime or are the victim of it? Come see how the same scenes can have very different readings and outcomes!
  • April 6
    Presented by Doug Yetter, Artistic Director.
    As Clear Space looks for works to be presented in upcoming seasons,
    the company would like to hear new pays read aloud.  We begin this process with
    the published work of Ronald Harwood, QUARTET - the play made prominent
    by the recent movie starring Maggie Smith.
  • April 13
    All workshop attendees are encouraged to participate in this presentation where we showcase what we've learned throughout the semester for an invited audience of friends, family and anyone who loves theatre! This fun and informal evening will include snacks, drinks, and some audience participation.

  • Students are required to wear clothing that is light-weight and in which they can move easily.  Jeans and tight tops are discouraged.
  • Students must wear a jazz oxford, which may be purchased for $19.99 at  Click on SHOES, then JAZZ and on page 2 you will find the SPLIT SOLE JAZZ SHOE made by Dance Distributors.
  • Long hair must be secured away from the face in a pony tail or braid.  No hats are permitted. 
  • No cell phones, pagers or alarms allowed in class.
  • Inclement Weather Policy: In case of inclement weather, please call 302.227.2270 for updates.
  • Holidays and Closings: The semester calendar allows for holidays and conflicting events at Clear Space. Please refer to your registration acceptance letter for class meeting dates.
  • Scholarships: Scholarships and senior discounts are offered to students in need (please see Scholarship Application link at right).
  • Refund schedule:
    Before First Class: 75% (Unless Class is at Capacity); After First Class-50%; After Second Class-No Refunds
  • All course content is aligned with the National Standards of Arts in Education and the Delaware State Arts Curriculum.
